Hi! Happy February. Welcome to my post personal prohibition world. You’d think I’d be celebrating my less-than-perfect-but-still-something-to-be-proud-of period of abstinence. But the thing is, my back has been fried. It still really hurts. I can’t sit at my desk, so I’ve set myself up in a laptop on the floor. It’s a busy week; I [...]

Hi. Just a few links I wanted to share with you all.
I contributed this delicious and unusually easy recipe over at Serious Eats. I’m kinda of proud of my photo. Not so long ago, the Serious Eats post photo issue filled me with dread and shame.
I wrote this piece about the weight aspect of my [...]

152 / What does a decade mean?

Posted by: joymanning In: On my mind| Weigh In

In 1990 I was 12. (I obviously don’t remember 1980.) I was just starting to understand that a particular decade represents an era of your life. Little did I know how tough the 90s would be for me. I endured a painfully tormented high school education and then a probably-too-much-fun turn in college.
That decade was [...]

What is it about the approaching new year that makes me want to resolve to lose weight? I guess it’s a lifetime of social programming that tells us that resolutions are what you should do the last few weeks of December. When I started this blog last December, I absolutely hoped to lose 25 pounds. [...]

151.5 / Happy Birthday to What I Weigh Today

Posted by: joymanning In: On my mind| Weigh In

I was surprised to see that number on the scale. I thought it would be higher. Why? Well, Dan went out of town on Monday, and instead of running away to a family member’s or friend’s house, I decided I would stay here and stare down my fear of being home alone overnight.
And, amazingly to [...]

152.5/Biggest Loser

Posted by: joymanning In: On my mind| Weigh In

Last night, even though I have not watched a single episode all season, I watched the entire 2-hour finale of the The Biggest Loser.
When the show first came on the air, I was addicted to it. All the team work and emotional life stories and, of course, the triumphant shedding of the pounds left me [...]

I use Twitter. Mostly, because I work at home and I think it’s fun. It gives me some sense of interacting with other people. But I definitely do use it to promote my work, too. So I try to be professional; I try to behave on Twitter, and always tweet nice to everyone, but yesterday [...]

Post Thanksgiving Scale Free Day

Posted by: joymanning In: On my mind

I didn’t weigh myself this morning. I had a typically generous Thanksgiving Day dinner with several types of pie and probably a gallon of white wine. I could have made healthier choices, but I’m not going to beat myself up about.
I wrote about some the food over at Oyster Evangelist, but here I wanted to [...]

Introducing My New Baby

Posted by: joymanning In: On my mind

Hi, What I Weigh Today readers!
Did you all know I’ve been at this blogging stuff just three weeks shy of a year? And in that time, I have really taken to blogging. I mean, I really, really like it. And as much as I enjoy this site, I’ve been wanting a legitimate, photo-filled food and [...]

151.5/Three Squares

Posted by: joymanning In: On my mind| Weigh In

I’m not sure I told you that I’m currently working on another special food issue for Philadelphia Magazine. For the past 10 days I’ve been out to eat at least once–but often twice–a day. There has been a lot of fried food involved, and the whole thing has been compounded by even more eating out [...]

  • Felicia D'Ambrosio: Say it, sister. You DON'T need to be a rail to be happy and healthy. Women's magazines reinforce every negative thing we think about ourselves, and
  • JeanineBean: Hooray! I've been waiting for this post! Good for you. Let's talk about something ELSE! (-:
  • pauline: I too have struggled with weight but for the first time in a lot of years I am down to 152lbs I think I would be happy at 145 then I could have a litt
