What I Weigh Today

What? Anxiety is well known to promote weight loss, not that I recommend it. And this is the slimmest I’ve been in months. Truthfully, I’d trade the surplus pound to be free from the angst. If only I could run some of the nervous energy off, I’d be much better off, but my lower back is still hurting (I am calling the doctor on Monday if it’s not ship shape by then) and I’ve been juggling quite a few things this week. My father suggested today I take a meditation class. Doesn’t the require the ability to dial your brain speed down quite a bit?

Relaxation has never been my strong suit but I’m going to try my damnedest to enjoy to quiet of the impending snow storm. Reader tips for taking your mind off things are welcome. I hope everyone of you cooks something over the weekend. I suggest soup for you vegetarians and lamb loin chops for the carnivores. Quick, run to the supermarket so you can get ingredients and take part in the pre-blizzard melee!

Oh, Joy. Sorry your back still hurts. Meds might help (NSAIDS like Advil or Motrin) if it’s killing you. If I were you, I’d take it easy this snowed-in weekend. Maybe read a book for pure pleasure and take your mind off real life. And heating pads help for aches and pains!

Your blog today is exactly the blog I wanted to write. I am so sorry you’re going through that, and I hate that I know how you feel.
Everything I read suggested ice for my back rather than heat, but in the end it’s the heat that makes it feel better. Ice promotes healing, but heat brings relief …
I promised myself I’d call a doctor on Monday as well, if it’s not better. In the mean time, the only thing that’s making it feel better is muscle relaxers (gift of an over-medicated friend) combined with lots and lots of rest. It feels like forced relaxation, which is neither my strong suit, nor actually relaxing.
I did manage to go to the pool this morning. My back is always better when I wake up, but then quickly stiffens again.
I think I’ll make soup this weekend though. If I can stand up long enough.

Tracey: Thanks, lady. I haven’t tried Advil or Motrin, though I have tried both Tylenol and Aleve. I definitely plan to be as horizoltal as possible this weekend, book and DVDs in hand.

Brigid: I’m so glad you said that about heat. I have also been advised to ice, but the thing is that heat is the only thing that has so far brought any relief, so for the past few days I’ve been using it liberally. And rest, which I’ve only been able to apply in fits and starts.

I’ll definitely keep you guys posted; I know that both of you can well relate. Happy weekend!

I find I’m most calm when reading. That’s probably why I’ve steered myself toward “lighter” books lately. I spent a lot of time with a silly mystery novel this weekend. I fall asleep best when I read before I go to bed.

So true about the anxiety…I’ve never been skinnier than I was when I was depressed. Hope things are better soon.
