What I Weigh Today

146.5

Posted by: joymanning In: Weigh In

That seems about right given my calorie roller coaster weekend. Yesterday I was very careful in my food choices. No snacks, no booze, no sweets. It wasn’t easy even putting meals together because we haven’t been grocery shopping since last Sunday. My calorie total was about 1,025. Low, I know, but I have a high-calorie review meal tonight and I am trying to get back into the 145 groove after all.

Yesterday’s meals:

Breakfast

Coffee with milk and sugar; 1 egg, scrambled with cheddar and onions; 1 homemade whole wheat biscuit (about 324 calories)

Lunch

Mango-yogurt smoothie, with a side of peanuts (about 261 calories)

Dinner

Penne with a really good, chunky sauce I made by browning a little Italian sausage and lots of cubes of yellow squash and then sort of braising this mixture in some crushed tomatoes. When I tasted it, I was annoyed I didn’t write everything down. But no worries–I decided to do it again for next week’s Serious Eats’ Meat Lite column but over grilled polenta instead of pasta. (about 439 calories)

I’m glad you had a good day and that you’re pleased with the new numbers. I know it must be tough to balance work requirements and your needs, and I am in awe of you for doing it.

Mmm, the yellow squash and sausage sounds amazing. I am trying to get out of the mindset that dishes like this “require” a starch…they actually work fine with just more of the vegetable instead, or a small handful of pasta instead of, like, half pasta. Lovely with a grating of fresh nutmeg.

That’s a great point, Maggie. We did use less pasta than some might have–8 ounces, which yielded 3 servings so roughly 2 and half ounces of pasta per plate. I have leftover sauce so maybe I will serve it with sauteed zucchini and no starch for lunch.

I had a feeling you’d wind up somewhere in the middle of those two numbers … and so you did. Yay! Love, love the sound of that sauce and will eagerly await the full report. :)

Emily–I would never be able to stick to water and salad at a neighborhood pizza party. Why not just try to stick to one or two slices and one or two non-water beverages? Pizza parties are fun. You should enjoy it. Besides I think we look good today!
