Kind of long and busy day … but here’s the day’s weight.

Red White & Blueberry Buckle

Posted by: joymanning In: Cooking

I’m not especially patriotic nor am I overly enamored of Independence Day, but when I poured this dessert into its baking dish yesterday, it was hard to miss its in-your-face American color palette. And ’tis the season. What I am really excited about is the fresh fruits and berries that are starting to turn up [...]

Not half bad. It would be nice if I could get to the gym today, but that is looking less and less likely. Maybe I’ll walk into Center City later. That counts. Right?

OK, it’s way too hot to hang out in my office, but I won’t be at my desk long enough to justify turning the spiffy new window AC on.
So, that’s all–146.5. It is what it is.
I will write up a week in review first thing tomorrow, and I’ve baked up what I’m calling a Red [...]

Bikini Zucchini Salad

Posted by: joymanning In: Cooking

I call this Bikini Zucchini Salad because I make it a lot when I want to wear one. It’s the closest I get to making diet food.
I started making a version of this salad a few years ago. Remember when Mariah Carey got so skinny and went on Oprah to tell how she did it? [...]

In case anyone was wondering, I have failed miserably in my efforts to abstain from alcohol. (Stepped-up workouts are going great though!)
It may be the inevitable outcome of self-denial. This week, I discovered a great weight loss blog via Twitter (Food Food Body Body) and its author wrote the following in a recent, terrific post: [...]

Whew, that’s good to see.
It’s amazing what a couple days of CSA-box eating can do. Last night: a big bed of greens tossed with a dressing I made from soft-braised cipollini onions mashed to a paste with champagne vinegar, lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper. It was creamy and delicious. I topped the greens [...]

New York, Day 2, Jean Georges

Posted by: joymanning In: Restaurants

Jean Georges was all Dan’s idea. I guess it’s my years working in the food media, but my appetite is stimulated by new, buzz-worthy, blogged-about restaurants. Something about Jean Georges felt like old news to me, so I wasn’t especially excited about our lunch reservation, especially since Jean Georges is one of the few places [...]

I’m not sure how that happened, or why, but I’ll take it. Perhaps it was the multiple gallons of water I drank yesterday. Who knows?

I did have dinner out last night, but this was pretty rough. My weight has crept up and up every week in June–for exactly as long as I’ve been taking the birth control pill. I can’t blame it all on that, though. I know that my workouts have been a bit lax and my eating [...]

  • Felicia D'Ambrosio: Say it, sister. You DON'T need to be a rail to be happy and healthy. Women's magazines reinforce every negative thing we think about ourselves, and
  • JeanineBean: Hooray! I've been waiting for this post! Good for you. Let's talk about something ELSE! (-:
  • pauline: I too have struggled with weight but for the first time in a lot of years I am down to 152lbs I think I would be happy at 145 then I could have a litt
