I don’t know when I’ll learn that my limit on drinks must be two. Even if calories weren’t an issue, and they are, three drinks completely disrupts my sleep. I fall asleep easily but then wake up after a couple hours and then can’t get back to sleep. This web page from the The National Institute on Alcohol Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism explains why this happens pretty well.
I have also read that alcohol reduces some chemical that promotes anxiety, but when it wears off that chemical spikes, producing a surge of anxiety. Of course, I can’t find that information now, and I’m probably not explaining it exactly right, but I notice this effect in myself whenever I have two or three drinks and then wake up at 2 am.
I have a restaurant meal scheduled for later, and I plan not to drink any alcohol at all. I will get back to you about how that goes.
