Hummus of the House

Posted by: joymanning In: Cooking

In my mind, NYU’s cafeteria invented hummus. I had never had the stuff before, but it was definitely love at first bite. A creamy mixture of chickpeas, tahini (sesame paste) and lemon juice, it’s a great party dip (Superbowl party, anyone?) and the perfect spread for an open-faced sandwich. It also happens to be low [...]

This song is also the overall theme of the week.

Being a Baby Beats Being a Big Fat Baby

Posted by: joymanning In: On my mind

Tonight, some of my friends are going to the party of a former coworker. A party I only heard about accidentally, because, as it happens, I wasn’t invited. An emotionally healthy 31 year old woman would probably not be very affected by this business, but  me, I’ve been feeling like an outcast all week.
My whole [...]

That’s a new low. Yay!
I’m still a bit under the weather. This cold makes it impossible for me to sleep in. I was up at 7 am today, which is, for me, unheard of for a Saturday. I’m getting ready to go off to meet a friend for coffee and then to the gym–I’m determined [...]

Bad Blogger

Posted by: joymanning In: On my mind

This was my worst day of blogging since I began almost two months ago! Having a cold really saps my energy–though I did make it to the gym today and I did better than yesterday. Because of the day I missed, I’ll need to work out for an hour tomorrow to make my goal of [...]

It’s no fun to be up a half pound, but I know it’s just part of the process. I have a cold, I haven’t been working out as hard this week, and I had some extremely bad for me food last night, so whatever. This is what it is today.

Soup to the Rescue

Posted by: joymanning In: Cooking

I’ve been eating some pretty sad lunches lately–an apple, walnuts and Greek yogurt most days. This morning, when Dan was getting ready to go to work, I practically forced him to take a container of freezer soup. When I IMed him to ask how it was, and he told me he didn’t eat it, I [...]

Real Food

Posted by: joymanning In: Cooking

I’m pretty sure the most important epiphany I’ve ever had was about processed food. Maybe epiphany is the wrong word, because it didn’t happen in a flash, but during the last decade, I’ve slowly but surely eliminated virtually all processed foods from my life. And I never miss them.
One of the first books I ever [...]

147.5

Posted by: joymanning In: Weigh In

I first glimpsed 147.5 less than a week ago; now I already feel stuck there. Silly, huh? It’s human nature, or at least my nature, to lose patience. Just because I haven’t hit a new low in three days dosen’t mean I’m stuck.
Yesterday, I felt the first ickiness of a cold in the back of [...]

  • Felicia D'Ambrosio: Say it, sister. You DON'T need to be a rail to be happy and healthy. Women's magazines reinforce every negative thing we think about ourselves, and
  • JeanineBean: Hooray! I've been waiting for this post! Good for you. Let's talk about something ELSE! (-:
